When Pope Benedict the 16th visited the White House, President Bush said he has prayed everyday since being elected President.  Howard Dean, Chairman of the Democratic National Committee said, “What a coincidence, every Democrat in America has also prayed every day since you were elected.”

Pope Benedict the 16th, the Prince of Peace, started his American visit with a White House welcoming ceremony. What did the President do? Gave him a 21 gun salute, very appropriate.

Because this is an election year, Congress will work during August (lawmakers take all of August off in odd numbered years) and then call it quits for the year about the first week of October to go home and campaign.  Therefore,  the five months left in this two year session is a GREAT time to lobby because lawmakers work so hard to get everything done.  So go see your elected officials and remind them of your issue(s) and what you can do to support them as they support you.

Trace amounts of prescription medications have been discovered in the water supplies of over 40 million people.  Taking the lead from when the Department of Agriculture in the 80s which declared ketchup a vegetable, the Department of Health and Humans Services is considering calling this water part of a government prescription drug program.

Hoping to avoid criminal prosecution, former NY Governor Eliot Spitzer was explaining everything to his lawyers. They responded by saying, “What a coincidence, we charge $1,000 per hour too.

Old habits die hard. When Eliot Spitzer submitted his resignation, he left it on the pillow with a $200 tip.

Barack Obama has had good week in that in appears that FL and MI will not have hold  “do over” elections.  This means that Hillary will be denied the delegates she “won” in the two states.  Obama’ s name was not on the ballot in Michigan and he didn’t actively campaign is either state because primaries were in violation of party rules. He also had a good week with his speech in Philadelphia designed to explain the anger of black people about real and imagined injustices while, at the same time, calling for peace and reconciliation among the races.

Hillary had a bad week for the same reasons Barack had a good week.

They both had a bad week because it appears that neither will have enough delegates to win the nomination outright.  This means the convention is Denver will be divisive and bruising rather than a celebration of unity and healing which conventions are supposed to be. This will put Democrats at a disadvantage because of the anger and hard feeling after the convention.  The Republicans have already started their healing and unity  process because they have their nominee.  A look at the conventions that were not celebrations of unity (Republicans in 1976, Democrats in 1968, and 1072 for example) and those nominated candidates did not win the White House.

Well, the Embargo of Cuba worked.  49 years and 10 presidents later and Fidel Castro is no longer the President of Cuba. Things under Raul Castro are better already. For example, Cubans are now allowed to install radios in their 1956 cars.

It is probable that neither Hillary nor Barack will go into the Convention in Denver with enough delegates for an outright win on the nomination.  The Super Delegates don’t want to be in the position of having to select the nominee which will anger all their constituents who wanted “the other guy” to get the nomination. Also, political parties that have a contentious convention often lose in November. The convention should be a time of unity, healing and team building. Who gets the Michigan and Florida delegates might give Hillary or Barack enough delegates to win the nomination.  However, both campaigns will only agree to a “do-over” if they feel they can win enough delegates in the state to help them. Hillary has the most to gain and as the candidate of “change and hope” Barack can’t appear to be standing in her way.

Congress is trying to determine if Roger Clemens is guilty of perjury. Boy this is tough on him, Congress is on his case and the other players in the clubhouse are needling him.

Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee says he is staying in the Presidential race because he has nothing else to do.  I guess that proves that is training to be the Vice President.
